All three studios are less than two hours drive north of Toronto. We are easy to contact, easy to reach and we have selected several excellent places for your accommodation.
If you have ever had an interest in learning the glass arts, this is the course for you. No experience is necessary and all tools and supplies will be provided. Our three day program provides you with a full day at each of our three studios. In the five day program, you will return to the studio of your choice for two more days, concentrating on stained glass, or glass fusing/slumping, or glass blowing and bead making. The five day course costs $795 + GST and the three day course costs $475 + GST.
All courses begin with an opening reception. You'll have the chance to relax and meet your instructors and your classmates the evening before classes start. We'll be happy to tell you about the other attractions and activities in the area - spas, hikes, galleries, restaurants - the list goes on and on.
The courses are for adults only and "Safety First" is how we will operate. But you will have fun, and we will take you away from your normal daily life. The artist in you will come out to play. You do not have to worry about tools or materials - all will be provided, and are included in the cost of the programs. Also included are lunches and snacks - as everyone knows - when creating great art, you can work up a real appetite!!!
At the Avalon Clearview Studio, Steve Collier will guide you in making your first small stained glass projects. You will have a choice of projects and, although we will discuss leaded glass, we will be concentrating on the copper foil method. Suncatchers and small panels will be your projects on the stained glass portion of the Taste of Glass program.
At the Beaver Valley Glassworks studio, Tanya Zaryski and Mark Lewis will be your guides into the fascinating world of blown glass and the torch method of bead making. With their combined experience, Mark and Tanya will be able to answer all your questions and help you with your first molten glass projects.
Eleanor Brownridge runs the Turtle Creek Art Glass studio and will be your master of the arts of fused, draped and slumped glass. You will learn about how glass behaves in a kiln, and you will learn about relief fusing, combing and bending hot glass.
